Right Start is a Christian, community-based non-profit foundation in San Juan City. The center focuses on creative and personality development for underprivileged youth in their local community.
I heard about Right Start two years ago through a good friend, Dr. Hayden Kho, when he introduced me to Acel Van Ommen, the co-founder of Right Start, who also happened to be our neighbor!
I thought putting together something for the children of Right Start would be the best gift I could give Jacob and Achi. Since both Jacob, my hubby, and my Achi Dianne celebrate their birthdays in March. And the two of them are fond of kids and making other people happy.
So last February, despite planning for my wedding, I made time to reach out to Ate Acel to start organizing the joint birthday bash. I was blessed to have so many of Jacob and Achi‘s close friends willingly contribute their time, talents, and ideas to making the event possible.
We tapped Chinoy TV to help us reel Jacob in as an official Mr. Chinatown engagement (and not his birthday party), and asked Achi to assist in preparing for the occasion, without revealing that the party was for her as well.
The event was held on Saturday, March 17, 2018, in collaboration with Right Start’s “Jump Start” program. Jump Start is similar to vacation Bible school, except with more emphasis on play and creative activities.
The volunteers – our friends DK, Ryan, Trisha, Diane Yap – arrived early to set up decorations, unfortunately Jacob was too prompt and saw Achi and Jonri upon parking as they were arriving at Right Start late!
Regardless, we pushed through with the plan, and despite knowing something was up, Jacob and Achi were welcomed with a warm birthday greeting and song from the Right Start kids.
We started the party with an action song, “Jesus, You’re My Superhero!” Followed by a Superhero costume contest, then a dance competition for the best rendition of the action song. Achi and Jacob served as judges, while the ChinoyTV team covered the whole celebration.
We ended the event with a cake, fried chicken, and birthday spaghetti blow out for everyone. We also gave away soaps, fragrances, sling bags, and water tumblers from Blackwater and Blackwater Women, shampoos, and toothbrushes from Calcident; all of which are available on the Ever Bilena Direct Sales brochure.
So thankful to everyone who contributed their time and effort for Achi and Jacob. Right Start’s Mr. and Mrs. Bernie and Sale Mallari, Acel Van Ommen, and Iris Capitulo for accommodating our team. Friends and volunteers, Jonri Isla and Heidi Tiu for hosting; Dianne Krupasa for leading the decorations committee; Diane Yap for the Blloons, Ryan Yu and Trisha Young for coming early to help set up and lead the kids; Clara Ramos and Justin Go for documenting everything; Ivan Arlantico for brainstorming with the team; Kate Rodriguez for supporting Achi; and Erica Patricia Lao for putting together the games and timeline of the program. Finally, Jacob’s Chinoy TV family, Ahia Alvin Tan, coordinator Mishel and videographer Emman for being a part of Achi and Jacob’s birthday.
